Released during a period of intense creative stagnation and waning contemporary relevance for the group, 'Endless Summer' focused entirely on their pre-'Pet Sounds' era of sun-drenched surf hits. The collection unexpectedly became an absolute commercial juggernaut, hitting number one and heavily inciting a massive mid-70s cultural nostalgia wave for 1960s pop innocence. Concurrently, it transformed The Beach Boys from a progressive studio outfit into an incredibly lucrative, nostalgia-driven touring act.
