Album Notes & Community Reviews

Released to satisfy contractual obligations before Petty's massive label change, this compilation is an unassailable hit parade of American heartland rock. Perfectly balancing his collaborative work with The Heartbreakers and his successful solo ventures, the sequence underscores his incredible knack for crafting Byrds-esque jangle pop into enormous stadium anthems. Propelled by the inclusion of the brand-new hit 'Mary Jane's Last Dance', it became one of the best-selling greatest hits records of all time.
