Dabke: Sounds of the Syrian Houran

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Showcases the frenetic, incredibly fast-paced folk-pop originating from the Houran region of southern Syria. The tracks feature lightning-fast synthesizer melodies mimicking traditional mijwiz flutes, layered over pounding drum machines designed to fuel the frantic communal line dancing at local weddings. Released amidst the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, it serves as a joyous, intensely energetic document of a vibrant cultural tradition.
