Music From the Morning of the World: The Balinese Gamelan

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Launching the highly influential Nonesuch Explorer Series, these pristine field recordings captured the intricate, metallic percussion of traditional Balinese court music. Crucially, the album also introduced Western listeners to the hypnotic 'Kecak' monkey chant, showcasing polyrhythmic structures that would deeply influence the emerging minimalist movement. It remains a legendary, foundational document in the history of world music curation.
