Ruines humaines

Ruines humaines cover art

Serving as the introductory release from Neige (of Alcest fame) and Audrey Sylvain, this profoundly bleak recording helped pioneer the blackgaze subgenre. The tracks fuse the blast beats and shrill shrieks of depressive suicidal black metal with the melodic, chorus-pedal guitar tone of 1980s post-punk. The lyrical themes heavily focus on modern urban isolation, decaying infrastructure, and overwhelming metropolitan despair.
