Album Notes & Community Reviews
Originally conceptualized as a bridge out of the stark, isolated acoustic aesthetic of his breakthrough debut, Justin Vernon uses this release to slowly integrate electric guitars and heavier percussion. The inclusion of 'Woods' stands as a major turning point in his discography, utilizing heavily layered auto-tune as a raw emotional instrument. This specific vocal experiment would famously be sampled by Kanye West on 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy'.
