Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded amidst the infamous violence of the early Norwegian black metal scene, this incredibly lo-fi debut established the band's grandiose, heavily symphonic ambition. The introduction of sweeping, gothic keyboards underneath Ihsahn's terrifying shrieks and blast-beats laid the direct foundational architecture for symphonic black metal. The tracks beautifully blend raw, primitive evil with a triumphant, distinctly classical atmosphere.
