Album Notes & Community Reviews
On her newest EP, Little Simz pivots from sprawling introspection into a focused, funk-drenched exploration of persona. *Sugar Girl* is a vibrant, corporeal affair, built on a foundation of sinuous basslines, glistening Rhodes keyboards, and taut, syncopated percussion reminiscent of 70s soul. Ajikawo uses this decadent sonic palette to dissect themes of femininity, desire, and the deceptive sweetness of public perception. Her lyricism remains characteristically dense, yet her delivery often adopts a more melodic, half-sung cadence, embodying the album鈥檚 seductive and complex titular figure with confident nuance.
