Rock and Roll Night Club
by Mac DeMarco
Originally intended strictly as a joke project, this weirdly seductive debut introduced the heavily pitched-down, sleazy radio-DJ persona that first brought the singer-songwriter to prominence. The extremely lo-fi, warped analog production successfully merges 1970s glam-rock aesthetics with slacker jangle pop. Its unexpected cult success earned him a stable label contract, directly paving the way for his highly influential album '2'.
