Album Notes & Community Reviews

Introducing their highly influential arpeggiated guitar style and famously muddled vocal delivery, this debut laid the immediate groundwork for the burgeoning college rock movement. The production was deliberately kept raw to capture the energy of their early live shows in Athens, Georgia. It established a mysterious, southern gothic aesthetic that would permeate their first decade of output.
