Album Notes & Community Reviews

A radical reinvention of Joy Division's defining classic, Swans released two distinct interpretations of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' on this EP (one sung by Michael Gira, the other by Jarboe). Stripping away the frenetic synth-pop energy of the original, Gira's arrangement utilizes plodding acoustic guitars, solemn string accompaniments, and a booming, funereal pace. It marked an important transitional phase for the group toward gothic neofolk.
