Album Notes & Community Reviews
Before cementing their reputation as masters of punishingly slow sludge and noise rock, Michael Gira's collective debuted with this surprisingly frantic, rhythmic set. The tracks blend harsh no-wave saxophone and grinding basslines with an aggressively syncopated, almost danceable mutant-disco energy. It captures the raw, confrontational spirit of the early 1980s downtown New York scene.
