Album Notes & Community Reviews
Opening with the sound of a torrential thunderstorm and a tolling bell, this monumental debut transmission birthed the entire heavy metal genre. Tony Iommi's use of the dissonant tritone interval, or 'diabolus in musica', generated an unparalleled, terrifyingly heavy atmosphere that completely severed rock music from its flower-power idealism.
