Originally conceived as a tongue-in-cheek parody of American grunge and alternative rock, the furiously energetic 'Song 2' ironically became the band's biggest hit in the United States. Clocking in at exactly two minutes, the track is propelled by a distorted fuzz-bass riff and Damon Albarn's nonsensical, shouted vocal hook. It marked a deliberate and successful departure from their established, character-driven Britpop sound.
