Album Notes & Community Reviews
Written by Billie Joe Armstrong about his then-undiagnosed panic disorders, 'Basket Case' pairs intense lyrical anxiety with relentlessly fast, undeniably catchy three-chord punk. The track opens with a distinctive, palm-muted guitar intro before exploding into a frenetic, driving rhythm. It served as a massive crossover hit, fundamentally responsible for bringing California pop-punk to the mainstream masses.
