Wake Me Up When September Ends

Album Notes & Community Reviews

A deeply personal, acoustic-driven ballad written by Billie Joe Armstrong about the trauma of losing his father at a young age. While initially deeply autobiographical, the song's poignant themes of grief and loss resonated heavily with the American public in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq War. Its dramatic, narrative-driven music video further cemented the song's massive emotional impact during the 'American Idiot' era.
