King Kunta

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Deliberately referencing the rebellious slave protagonist from Alex Haley's 'Roots', this funk-driven track serves as an unapologetic celebration of Black empowerment and upward mobility. The beat, anchored by a thick, squelching bassline from Thundercat and production by Sounwave, functions as a direct homage to 1990s West Coast G-Funk. It acts as the swaggering, braggadocious centerpiece of a largely dense, deeply introspective conceptual album.
