Hurt

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Concluding the band's magnum opus 'The Downward Spiral', this intensely fragile ballad strips away the project's typical industrial maximalism in favor of stark acoustic guitar and ambient dissonance. Trent Reznor's barely-audible whispers detail profound self-mutilation, addiction, and emotional isolation. The song's devastating vulnerability established it as a masterwork of 90s songwriting, later achieving legendary status through Johnny Cash's iconic acoustic cover.
