Album Notes & Community Reviews
Drenched in a watery, metallic chorus pedal effect, 'Come as You Are' offered a moodier, more introspective follow-up to the explosive 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. Kurt Cobain notably hesitated to release it as a single due to its striking similarity to Killing Joke's 1984 track 'Eighties', leading to mild controversy upon release. The cryptic lyrics, centering on contradictory expectations of behavior and identity, resonated powerfully with Generation X audiences.
