Enola Gay / Annex

by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark

Enola Gay / Annex cover art

An incredibly infectious synthpop anthem that disguises a dark, historical narrative regarding the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Frontman Andy McCluskey wrote the lyrics addressing the B-29 bomber and the 'Little Boy' payload, juxtaposing Cold War anxiety with an undeniably cheerful, synthesized melody. It became a massive international success and established OMD as pioneers of intellectual, electronically-driven pop.
