Cut Your Hair

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Serving as the band's only significant brush with mainstream radio success, 'Cut Your Hair' is an incredibly catchy, sardonic takedown of the superficiality of the music industry. Stephen Malkmus uses a buoyant, hook-heavy arrangement and falsetto 'ooh-ooh' choruses to mock the sudden, image-obsessed commercialization of the independent rock scene. Its laid-back, slacker-rock aesthetic perfectly captured the ironic detachment of 90s alternative culture.
