Glory Box

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Anchored by a prominent, sluggish sample of Isaac Hayes' 'Ike's Rap II', 'Glory Box' is a cornerstone of the Bristol trip-hop sound. Beth Gibbons delivers a desperately smoky, torch-singer vocal performance that explores themes of gender roles, vulnerability, and romantic exhaustion. The stark contrast between the dusty, crackling hip-hop beat and the aggressive, fuzz-laden guitar solo creates a cinematic atmosphere of noir-tinged tension.
