The quintessential Britpop anthem, 'Common People' uses a soaring, keyboard-driven pop arrangement to launch a scathing attack on 'class tourism' and wealthy artistic pretension. Jarvis Cocker drew inspiration from an encounter with an affluent Greek student at St Martin's College who expressed a patronizing desire to live in poverty. The band's explosive, career-defining performance of the song as headliners at the 1995 Glastonbury Festival is widely considered legendary.
