Defying label executives who deemed a six-minute operatic rock suite too uncommercial for radio, Freddie Mercury's magnum opus became one of the best-selling singles in history. Lacking a traditional chorus, it traverses through an a cappella intro, a piano ballad segment, a multi-tracked operatic passage, and a heavy rock climax. Its accompanying promotional video is widely credited with catalyzing the MTV music video era.
