Be Ready When He Comes / Jesus Is a Mighty Good Leader

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Applying his dark, highly complex fingerpicking style to traditional religious material, the artist offers a profoundly eerie interpretation of gospel blues. His haunting, falsetto vocal delivery strips the spirituals of their usual communal joy, injecting them with a tense, almost supernatural atmosphere. The recording proves that the idiosyncratic Bentonia style could seamlessly adapt to sacred themes.
