Should Have Known Better

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Examining the complex trauma surrounding his estranged mother's death and his own childhood abandonment, this folk ballad relies on whispered, devastatingly direct lyricism. Halfway through, the song radically transforms from a sparse acoustic dirge into an uplifting, electronic-tinged groove, mirroring a narrative shift toward healing and finding solace in his newborn niece. The track is widely regarded as a masterful display of emotional pacing and arrangement.
