Ascension Day

Album Notes & Community Reviews

As the only single extracted from their notoriously complex final album, 'Ascension Day' is a chaotic, intensely rhythmic exploration of jazz-rock and avant-garde improvisation. The track builds to a furious, dissonant climax before being famously and jarringly cut off mid-measure by producer Tim Friese-Greene, forcing an abrupt silence. It perfectly encapsulates the group's uncompromising artistic trajectory, entirely abandoning the pop structures that originally brought them fame.
