Album Notes & Community Reviews
As a double A-side, this release functioned as a nostalgic meditation on the childhood memories of John Lennon and Paul McCartney in Liverpool. It represents a zenith in studio experimentation, employing the nascent Mellotron, reverse tape loops, and intricate brass and cello arrangements. The single permanently altered the landscape of popular music by proving that the recording studio could act as an instrument in its own right.
