Released as a standalone single bridging the 'Faith' and 'Pornography' eras, the track is directly based on Penelope Farmer's children's novel about a girl traveling back in time. Featuring dense, flanger-heavy bass and suffocatingly bleak drum programming, the song perfectly crystallizes the band's peak gothic rock atmosphere. The B-side, 'Splintered in Her Head', utilizes reversed drum loops to create a truly nightmarish, disorienting soundscape.
