The track's propulsive energy is derived from John Densmore's driving bossa nova drum beat and Ray Manzarek's keyboard bassline, which directly interpolates the rhythm of Ray Charles' 'What'd I Say'. Elektra Records famously censored Jim Morrison's 'she gets high' lyric on the original release to avoid radio boycotts.
