Philip Oakey initially disliked this track so strongly that he relegated it to the end of the 'Dare' album and fought Virgin Records against releasing it as a single. Driven by a massive Linn LM-1 drum machine beat and Roland Jupiter-4 synth bass, the song's dual-narrative vocal structure (featuring Joanne Catherall) proved incredibly infectious. It became the Christmas number one of 1981, defining the global synth-pop explosion.
