Purple Haze / 51st Anniversary

Opening with the famously dissonant 'Devil's interval' tritone chord, 'Purple Haze' essentially rewrote the rules of electric guitar playing. Producer Chas Chandler heavily utilized an Octavia effects pedal, developed by Roger Mayer, to double the guitar frequency into upper octaves. The song's mind-bending solo and hallucinogenic lyrical imagery cemented Hendrix as the absolute vanguard of the psychedelic rock movement.
