There Is a Light That Never Goes Out

Album Notes & Community Reviews

A perfect distillation of The Smiths' aesthetic, marrying Johnny Marr's soaring, synthesized string arrangements with Morrissey's macabre yet earnest romanticism. The lyrics infamously depict the desire for a fatal car crash as the ultimate expression of unyielding devotion and teenage alienation. The track was originally withheld as a UK single during the band's lifespan, yet it became their most universally beloved anthem.
