A foundational text of the punk rock movement, built entirely around Ron Asheton's menacing, distorted three-chord guitar riff. The track's dense, repetitive atmosphere is uniquely augmented by a continuous, single-note piano line and sleigh bells, both played by former Velvet Underground member John Cale, who produced the session. Iggy Pop's aggressive, submissive lyricism challenged contemporary rock's macho posturing.
