Album Notes & Community Reviews
Inspired by the Polish Solidarity movement and leader Lech Wa艂臋sa, this politically charged single provided U2 with their first major international hit. Adam Clayton's iconic, driving bassline and the Edge's icy piano and guitar textures established the sweeping, earnest stadium-rock sound that would define the band's career. The snowy, dramatic music video filmed in Sweden perfectly encapsulated the track's bleak yet triumphant atmosphere.
