Biography

U2 are an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 1976 with a long-standing lineup of *Bono*, *The Edge*, *Adam Clayton*, and *Larry Mullen Jr*. Initially rooted in post-punk, the band signed to #Island Records# and developed an anthemic sound built on expressive vocals and effects-laden guitar. They achieved global renown for their political lyricism and live performances, particularly after their 1983 album 'War' and their 1985 Live Aid appearance. Working with producers *Brian Eno* and *Daniel Lanois*, their 1987 album 'The Joshua Tree' made them one of the world's biggest bands, a status they have maintained through decades of musical evolution and experimentation.
