Album Notes & Community Reviews

Utilizing a reggae-tinged, upstroke guitar rhythm in the verses before exploding into a cathartic, fuzz-drenched chorus, 'Say It Ain't So' tackles deeply personal themes of alcoholism and generational family trauma. Rivers Cuomo's agonizing vocal delivery strips away the group's usual geek-rock irony, providing a moment of startling vulnerability. It remains a masterclass in the quiet-loud dynamic structure that defined 1990s alternative rock.
