Produced by Yung Gud, 'Kyoto' relies on massive, ethereal synthesizer swells and heavy, stuttering trap percussion to create a woozy, digital dreamscape. Yung Lean's heavily auto-tuned, monotone vocal delivery and absurdly boastful lyrics captured the irony and detachment of early internet culture. The accompanying lo-fi music video was fundamental in establishing the aesthetic vocabulary of the emerging vaporwave and cloud rap subcultures.
