Album Notes & Community Reviews

This album captures the sound of Albert Ayler's 'energy music' at its most potent. The music is a chaotic and joyous explosion of sound, where Ayler's roaring saxophone leads his band through a collage of marching band themes, folk melodies, and ecstatic free improvisation. It's a key document of spiritual jazz, translating the unbridled fervor of a sanctified church service into the language of the avant-garde.
