Biography
Alto and baritone saxophonist Charles Tyler emerged from *Albert Ayler*'s group, where he played on 'Bells' and 'Spirits Rejoice', before leading his own sessions for #ESP-Disk# from 1966. His huge tone and free yet blues-rooted playing made albums such as 'Charles Tyler Ensemble' and 'Voyage from Jericho' enduring free jazz documents. He also taught and played on the West Coast before returning east, and his 1970s groups kept the Ayler flame alive..
