Album Notes & Community Reviews
Bathory essentially codified the aesthetic and sonic blueprint of second-wave black metal with this infernal, lo-fi release. Quorthon's raspy, demonic shrieks and the raw, atmospheric tremolo picking birthed a terrifying, Satanic mythology that completely divorced itself from traditional thrash metal structures. It remains one of the most evil-sounding and historically crucial albums in the history of extreme music.
