Filosofem
by Burzum
'Filosofem' is defined by an experimental fusion of raw black metal with minimalist, ambient soundscapes, a sound Varg Vikernes achieved through intentionally primitive production, including using a stereo amplifier for guitar and a headset for vocals. The album’s lengthy compositions are built upon hypnotic, repetitive guitar motifs and prominent synthesizer melodies that create a harsh yet immersive atmosphere. Recorded in March 1993, 'Filosofem' was Vikernes's final work before a lengthy imprisonment, and its delayed release in 1996 cemented its status as a landmark statement of the second-wave black metal era.
