Album Notes & Community Reviews
Can's debut, 'Monster Movie', merges psychedelic rock, free jazz, and blues with a pronounced Velvet Underground influence, establishing a cornerstone of the krautrock genre. The album is defined by the juxtaposition of extensive, rhythm-driven improvisation and meticulous tape editing, most notably on the epic track "Yoo Doo Right," which was condensed from a six-hour jam. This foundational work is driven by Jaki Liebezeit鈥檚 machine-like drumming and the raw, wailing vocal performance of Malcolm Mooney, setting the blueprint for the band's experimental and influential future.
