Album Notes & Community Reviews
On 'Hiss Spun', Chelsea Wolfe fully embraces the extremities of sludge and doom metal, creating a dense, punishing soundscape defined by the crushing production of Kurt Ballou and the fuzzed-out bass and unsettling electronics of collaborator Ben Chisholm. The album serves as a personal exorcism, with Wolfe's ethereal yet commanding vocals exploring themes of addiction, anxiety, and dark family history. Featuring guitar work from Troy Van Leeuwen and a guest appearance by Aaron Turner, the record balances its overwhelming heaviness with moments of fragile beauty, solidifying its place as a uniquely visceral and cathartic entry in her discography.
