Marking the final studio appearance of founding frontman Rozz Williams before his departure from the group, this album heavily incorporates the theatrical, European sensibilities of guitarist Valor Kand. 'Ashes' shifts away from the primitive aggression of traditional Los Angeles deathrock, introducing lush orchestral instrumentation, choirs, and dark cabaret aesthetics.
