Album Notes & Community Reviews
Forming a new quintet that would define his mid-career sound, the renowned English bassist recruited saxophonist Steve Coleman and trumpeter Kenny Wheeler for this exceptional ECM session. The compositions blur the lines between structured post-bop harmonic complexity and fluid, avant-garde group improvisation. It stands as a brilliant showcase of Holland's compositional rigor and his ability to foster profoundly interactive ensemble playing.
