Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse

Album Notes & Community Reviews

This fiercely uncompromising, politically radical funk masterpiece famously drew the ire of the Nixon administration, which allegedly pressured the label to suppress its distribution. The songwriter pairs thick, heavily sampled jazz-funk grooves with biting, cynical lyricism that directly addresses systemic racism and American imperialism. Discovered by hip-hop producers decades later, it is now revered as a foundational, incendiary text of conscious soul.
