Biography

Eugene McDaniels (1935-2011) was an American singer-songwriter. After pop hits as Gene McDaniels, including 'A Hundred Pounds of Clay', he wrote the protest classic 'Compared to What' and *Roberta Flack*'s 'Feel Like Makin' Love'. His own #Atlantic# albums 'Outlaw' (1970) and 'Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse' (1971) are landmarks of political soul, later widely sampled in hip-hop. His writing kept speaking to new generations long after his chart years ended.
