The New Sound
by Geordie Greep
On his solo debut 'The New Sound', Geordie Greep pivots from his work in Black Midi to a lavish fusion of progressive rock, jazz-rock, and prominent Brazilian influences like samba and bossa nova. The album’s lyrics are satirical character studies, adopting the perspectives of desperate and delusional male narrators to explore themes of toxic masculinity with a mix of humor and pathos. Produced with Seth Evans and recorded in London and São Paulo, the arrangements are complex and muscular, utilizing a large ensemble of over thirty musicians to create a dynamic, theatrical, and richly layered sound.
