Album Notes & Community Reviews
Documenting one of the most historically revered interpretations of the composer's profound, mortality-obsessed symphonic song cycle, this recording captures the immense tragic weight of late Romanticism. The performance is widely celebrated for the emotionally devastating, deeply resonant vocal delivery, perfectly framed by the immense scale and sweeping dynamic shifts of the Vienna Philharmonic. It remains an absolute cornerstone of the classical catalog, capturing a definitive, fiercely poignant realization of the masterful score.
